Review of Altmann Attraction DAC 44.1 CD JISCO TOSLINK version RE: BYOB, Hi Charles, Here are some more notes about your Attraction DAC. First of all I should say that my CEC DAC (model DX-71) is not bad at all, but compared to the Attraction DAC it sounds a bit thin and there are still some traces of digital "stress" (it's difficult to find the right words, perhaps jitter, or hectic, or chaotic). But I would not have noticed it without direct comparison with the Attraction DAC. For me, the biggest advantage of the Attraction DAC is that it sounds more STABLE, SOLID, RELAXED. It also has a FULLER and BIGGER sound. The only point on which the CEC DAC might be better is three-dimensionality, a more spatial impression, although this could be a side-effect of having more jitter. Some more remarks: I like the bass sound of your DAC. It's a nice full sound without becoming too heavy or overwhelming. The CEC seems to have a "tighter" bass, which sometimes has more drive, but sometimes also attracts too much attention. The Attraction bass is more relaxed and present in the background. Some other things I especially like are the sound of piano, flute, and background (harmony) vocals. To conclude: I am a very satisfied customer and I would also be interested in a BYOB phono-preamp. best regards, PETER ---- This is a review of the Altmann BYOB Amplifier, Attraction DAC, Creation ADC, Altmann Phono Stage, , BYOB Speaker System, Altmann Acoustic Panel, Altmann UPCI (Ultra Precision Clock Injector) or Altmann JISCO (Jitter Scrambling Decorrelator). |
